Related News A group of Finnish MPs have signed a bill requiring national and local agencies to migrate their IT systems to the Linux operating system.


The MPs cited Linux's security and reliability over that of other operating systems, according to a press release issued today. According to Finland's Ministry of Finance, the move to Linux will also result in economic benefits, with substantial savings to that nation.

Related News Its day two and more vouluteers have turned out to give us a hand, Li brought down his power box, and has been demonstrating 3D and video applications, Jonathan has been whipping around command line style bopping in and out of various servers, demonstrating remote access.

Bill is getting comfortable talking to people and advocating away.

More and more people are asking questions and more delagates are coming by to talk about GNU/Linux and Open Source.

Related News Praise be to TUX, while Vanlug officially had no time to support this effort. Individual members have provided equipment, and the booth is in place.

Total thanks to Jonathan and Christian from Vancouver for the 2.30 AM !!!! equipment run. Now thats dedication to the cause. Approximatly 3,000 have been through the doors today and seeds are being planted.

The two major comment areas are lack of even basic computing skills and the usual FUD stuff (nobody supports it, blah blah etc blah)

Ironic when Vanluggers tell me 80% of their members are either un or under employed.

Related News It was one thing when small, undeveloped countries began to promote Linux use. However, this week the governments of several key allies of the United States have begun to promote Linux and even place it at the heart of their most sensitive applications. The motives driving these governmental announcements are complex, to say the least, but they represent an accelerating trend by government institutions to embrace an Open Source alternative. Will the United States join its allies?

Canopener Advocate could use some help at Canadian Labour Congress Convention in Vancouver

Related News Canopener's Michael Francis will have a booth at the Canadian Labour Congress Convention in Vancouver June 10th-14th at the Vancouver Convention Center. Michael and others have been attempting to advocate GNU/Linux, FSM and OSS to the Trade Union Movement for some time now.

While the booth will be for the launch of the W.R.E.N.S project an inniative to link all the labour councils and community non-profit groups which want to collaborate in the Western Region. (read GNU/Linux FSM OSS beachhead!!!)

I will post more details on the W.R.E.N.S. at a later date after its official launch.

There will be approx 3,000-4,000 delagates from the trade union movement in attendance a perfect opportunity to get our message across to elected delagates and union officials from a wide range of Industries and Sectors.

More banks switching to Linux

Related News A New Zealand bank has become the latest institution to adopt the open-source Linux operating system. According to reports, the bank is to move all its branches to the Linux platform.

New Zealand's TSB Bank will join a growing number of companies that are moving to Linux. The bank was not immediately available for comment, but if European examples are anything to go by, then software licensing and hardware upgrade costs are likely to feature among the reasons.
